Sophomores Receive Acceptance to Pre-College Program
Family Expectations
Juliana’s father, Mr. James Bennett is a single parent with a responsibility to accomplish what his wife, who unfortunately deceased in 2009, to love, encourage and raise their youngest to her fullest potential. The significance of obtaining this scholarship has given her father peace of mind in knowing that they are on track in her upbringing. One of their desires was for Juliana to enter into the field of medicine, where both sides of their families have registered nurses, her mother being one of them, and they have 3 female Doctors. With this in mind they moved to Beloit where Juliana will complete 4 years of high school and open a family restaurant, Mama Lou’s Shrimp & BBQ Smokehouse, where she will learn business.
With this scholarship program it has given the family high hopes to accomplish a fully grounded ideology as to how everything comes together. According to her father, some people gravitate to law, others to business, financing or personnel. In business you would need to learn the systems and organization to run efficiently and properly along with running and organizing her own personal life, and or family. The family’s expectations for Juliana is to attain a top position in a corporation after college.
Opportunities
As Juliana’s father I would say to other parents, take advantage of the opportunities. Opportunities come to all of us, but we must pay attention, the doors open and shut quickly. We don’t want to let opportunities go by, because all of a sudden one turn and you’re now twenty-five or thirty. You might see an opportunity and even if you see it, you now have 2 or 3 children to consider first. You’re no longer the priority but have parental duties.
Accomplishing Her Goals
Juliana started very young in competing and learning what it meant to accomplish and finish to see the end results. We’ve always had her in private schools. As of age 3 to 4 she was in modeling, she won lots of regional and grand championship trophies. By the age of 5 she was the second in national competition and she was offered a Gatorade contract. At age 7 she had a black belt and at eleven or twelve she had her 1st degree black belt. In Aldrich she had the highest math score, she came in at being twenty second in the whole state of Wisconsin. These first 2 years at BMHS she has attained the Academic Minority Award, has 3 or 4 letters as a Freshman, and 2 letters as a Sophomore. And looking to see her newest accomplishments as a Junior.
As a father, I’m so proud and admire Juliana for her qualities of putting people first. She has great compassion for people along with a gentle spirit. She knows what it is to sacrifice and buckle down to accomplish her goals.
Overcoming Challenges
The challenges we’ve had together along with our loving family were overcome. One in particular was the normal routine of the threesome, Juliana, her mother and myself. Juliana and her mother would love to sit and watch classics together. When I would arrive home I would usually find an old movie of Humphrey Bogart on the television.
To overcome all of this I looked at my purpose and responsibilities. This was to be a father and to guide Juliana. Losing her mother was not easy, together we kept focused and it gave Juliana the courage needed to continue.
Juliana’s support team that she would love to thank is her mother and father along with 2 great outstanding teachers at BMHS. My mother and father have been very forthcoming and encouraging in helping to be the best I can be. My mother would have wanted me to excel.
Mrs. Wolf, her Guidance Counselor, was very instrumental academically and emotionally. Ms. Powers, her advance A/P World History teacher, was very inspirational, she is great all around, very supportive and very personable.
Juliana would love to encourage others by saying the following, “Focus on completion, without completing this scholarship, it will be taken away, anything you start complete to the end. Try things you wouldn’t want to do, because it opens your eyes to new experiences. Maybe you might not like it, but there’s always a lesson to learn. Always get involved.”
