Mr. Saeed Amin:
Described as one of the most kind, thoughtful and gentle souls on the planet, Mr. Saeed refuses to have a bad day. In fact, students and staff report never seeing Mr. Saeed without a smile on his face. As the heart of Robinson Elementary School, Saeed is very involved with all the students and often takes on the role of a mentor. Mr. Saeed spends time with students, staff and parents and always takes the time to listen and share encouraging words with those who may be having a difficult day. After retiring from a career of working in a factory, Mr. Saeed came to the education field to ‘make a difference’. When asked why Mr. Saeed comes back to school after work to attend special events and concerts, he says: “These kids have to know people care about and support them.” Mr. Saeed is more than just a janitor; he is a role model and mentor for the students.
Cintas Janitor of the Year
The Janitor of the Year Contest is open to janitors of educational facilities at all levels—elementary through college. In its third year, the award shines a spotlight on those who work behind the scenes and often go unnoticed.
“When we started this contest, we were looking for a way to honor those who work so hard year-round to make schools a safe, healthy, clean place for our children to learn,” said John Engel, Senior Marketing Manager, Cintas. “But what we learned was that there is so much more to a janitor’s relationship with their students and staff than we ever knew. These janitors truly are a beloved part of their school.”
