School Aims to Increase Parent Engagement
The Community Needs Grant, worth $36,000, will fund a position at the school to specifically work with families and the school neighborhood. This would be an expansion to a position that was funded through a Stateline Community Foundation Grant during the 2014-2015 school year. That position began gaining momentum in getting more families into the school and providing them support, but with only 10-15 hours a week the position was limiting.
The goal of this grant is to continue work on developing Hackett into a community school, helping to educate parents as well as their children. The Family Liaison position will not only help families seek resources for their basic daily needs, but also provide education for the parents in a multitude of formats.
“We feel that a full-time position would make a huge impact on student achievement, family well-being and hopefully a neighborhood that can feel safe,” explains Principal Marcia Schwengels. “In order for us to maximize the resources in our community we must have someone on staff that can organize, plan and implement a way for community members to get involved.”
