The Diversity Action Team (DAT) of Rock County will host the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration. The event honors Dr. King and features student performances, awards and cultural sharing.

Racial Justice Award
Nominations for the YWCA Racial Justice Award are being accepted at the YWCA, 1735 S. Washington Street, Janesville, or through its website, ywcarockcounty.com. Individuals, area clubs, and groups with noteworthy efforts in promoting civil rights and peace are eligible for the award. Nominations are open through December 18, 2015.
The UAW Diversity Award is open to any youth or adult who is active in the community to enhance race relations; participates in community, school and church activities; demonstrates knowledge of community resources; and exhibits an emphasis on multicultural or diversity activities. Nomination forms can be found here and on the School District of Beloit website announcements at beloitschools.net. Nomination forms can be turned in by January 8, 2016 to the Martin Luther King Jr. selection committee, UAW Local 95, 1795 Lafayette Street, Janesville, WI 53546 (or fax: 608-752-2531).
Celebration Details
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Change Begins With Me” and will feature: opening remarks from Dr. Tom Johnson, Superintendent of the School District of Beloit , and Dr. Karen Schulte, Superintendent of the School District of Janesville, speakers, musical selections by the Beloit Memorial High School Choir, and an ethnic food festival. The festival is free and open to the entire community.
