About:
The play is a series of comedic vignettes that deal with the concept of time as an abstract. The short scenes examine possibility and probability, similar to the movie “Groundhog Day”. Exploring how we spend our time, these scenes are witty and clever, delving into the intricacies of language with plenty of puns and play on words.
When asked why he chose this play, BMHS Director Greg Wallendal simply said he loves the humor in the production. “I love the fact that we can
laugh about word play and silliness and I love that it takes complex philosophical ideas and turns them into a stage production.”
Noting that the production takes literature and flips it upside down, Wallendal describes one vignette in which monkeys must type until they produce Hamlet. This scene refers to the Infinite Monkey Theorem, in which a scientist/philosopher long ago suggested that given infinite opportunities over infinite time, not only is anything possible, it is probable. He went on to suggest that an infinite number of monkeys sitting at typewriters for an infinite amount of time would eventually produce the works of Shakespeare. Of course, this is ridiculous… but mathematically, it is correct. In the play scenarios, the monkeys – named Swift, Milton and Kafka – are attempting this feat while in space, just one of many crazy scenes contained in this comedy.
