Introducing Major General Marcia Anderson

In 2011, she became the first African-American female officer to earn the rank of Major General in the U.S. Army, Army Reserve or National Guard.

She most recently served as the Deputy Chief Army Reserve from 2011 thru 2014 and was responsible for the development and execution of program and policy development that affected 205,000 Soldiers and 13,000 civilian employees.  Prior to that position, she served as the Deputy Commanding General, United States Army Human Resources Command, which supports well over 1 million active, reserve and retired Soldiers.

Major General Anderson has commanded at all levels thru General Officer and received her commission as an officer in the U.S. Army through the Reserve Officers Training Corps. After graduating from Creighton University in 1979 with a Bachelors Degree in political science, she later earned a Juris Doctorate from the Rutgers University School of Law in 1984. Major General Anderson also has a Masters Degree in strategic studies from the Army War College. An active citizen-soldier, she has been employed by the United States Courts for over twenty-five years, where she serves as Clerk of the Bankruptcy Court, Western District of Wisconsin.   She is also active in her community serving as a member of the Green Bay Packers Board of Directors; as well as the United Way of Dane County’s Board, and is Co-Chair of the United Way’s effort to partner with the public and private sector to train and hire 240 individuals to help transition themselves and their families from homelessness and poverty to sustainable jobs and improved outcomes.

She is married to Amos Anderson, and they have a son, Alex, and a daughter, Tiara, who is also the mother of the absolute best grandson in the world, Marc.
